The Fitness Center has a maximum capacity of 30 adults
or 36 students for the 18 stations. 

Common Rules of Etiquette:

  1. Please allow other members to “work in.” Do not tie up machines with multiple sets if others wish to use the same equipment.
  2.  Please limit your cardiovascular workout to 20 minutes if others are waiting.
  3. Outside trainers are not allowed.
  4. Personal equipment and belongings are not allowed (i.e. gym bags, purses) on the workout floor.
  5. Wipe down all equipment after use (club wipes are provided in the cardio, weight, and group exercise areas).
  6. Please report defective equipment to staff.
  7. If you are not familiar with the use of a machine, consult a staff member prior to use for instruction.
  8. Return weight machines to their starting positions. Make sure the pin is all the way in.
  9. Return all borrowed equipment to their designated location.
  10. No emotional outburst or excessively loud grunting while working out.
  11. Do not bring your own fitness equipment, e.g. weights, etc.
  12. No more than 30 adults in center at one time or 36 students.

Attire/Towels:

Wear proper exercise attire at all times. West St. Francois County R-IV reserves the right to determine what clothing is appropriate or not appropriate and may result in the denial of access to the facility until the member complies. The dress code is as follows:
  1. No jeans, khakis, trousers, belts, or buckles; only fitness pants, or shorts without hardware are permitted.
  2. No dress shirts, ties, dress jackets, or blazers; only breathable, non-revealing fitness tops or tees are permitted.
  3. No dress shoes bare feet, or sandals; only rubber-soled, close-toed footwear permitted on the fitness floor.
  4. Members are encouraged to bring a towel for personal use and to wipe down equipment. 

Training Safety and Tips:

  1. Prior to using the equipment, READ the warning labels and instruction placards affixed to each machine.
  2. If you are unsure on how to use a machine, seek the assistance of our floor personnel. They will instruct you on how to use the equipment.
  3. Immediately report any piece of equipment that is not functioning properly to our floor personnel so that it may be evaluated and serviced properly.
  4. DO NOT ATTEMPT to use or fix any equipment that is not functioning properly.
  5. Select appropriate weight resistance for each individual fitness level. Always choose a light resistance when using the machine for the first time.
  6. Make sure selector pin is fully inserted and secured.
  7. Train at a controlled rate of speed, use a slow to medium tempo for general training routine.
  8. Return weight under control to stating position, do not drop or slam weights down.
  9. Always warm-up with light calisthenic exercises or stretchings.
  10. Do not hold breath, exhale during exertion phase and inhale when returning to start position.
  11. For traditional SETS & REPS training, rest one minute between sets. For timed circuit training, follow your instructor’s direction for rest periods.
  12. Varying the training routine can help achieve continuous improvement.
  13. Stop exercising immediately if you feel pain, faint or dizzy. Always make sure you stay hydrated during exercises.
  14. Use the equipment only for its intended purpose, not to lean on, do project with and stay away from moving parts.
  15. IMPORTANT: For exercise procedure, seek assistance from instructor and be guided through proper procedure.

Food/Beverages:

Smoking/Vaping:

Consumption of food or any beverage other than water or sports drinks is prohibited throughout the Fitness Center. 
​Smoking/Vaping is not allowed on school property or in the Fitness Center.

Cell Phones/Cameras:

Sports Practice &  District Games in Gym:

No camera-equipped devices are to be used in any area where personal privacy is generally acknowledge, including restrooms, exercise areas at any time due to the possibility of personal privacy violations.  Talking on cellphones while in the Fitness Center is prohibited. Cellular phones may be used in conjunction with headphones to listen to personal music while on the equipment.

Damages to Property:

​Any member or guest who intentionally damages any property of West County R-IV will be held financially responsible for the damage. Equipment will be inspected daily by staff for wear and tear and loose cables. 
If your child is in the gym at practice, parents are not allowed to watch the practice while in the fitness center.

If there is a game in the gym, members will, upon signing in at the main office, be given a ticket with a date and time. The ticket must be given to the Fitness Center floor personnel upon entrance. Tickets cannot be given to anyone else during the event. 

Damaged, Lost, and Stolen Items:

​West St. Francois County R-IV is not responsible for any damaged, lost or stolen personal items brought to the Fitness Center. If items are turned in they will be kept in the Middle School office and may be claimed in person.  Lost and found items will be confirmed over the phone.   We cannot store personal belongings for members.
